July 2025 – Derry, NH: The Derry Medical Center (DMC) Charitable Foundation is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 high school scholarship awards. These $1,000 scholarships recognize outstanding local high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to pursuing a career in medicine or the healing arts.

This year, the Foundation awarded scholarships to students representing Bedford High School, Concord High School, Dover High School, Goffstown High School, Londonderry High School, Pinkerton Academy (Derry), Raymond High School, Salem High School, and Windham High School. One of these students, Madelyn Roussel from Pinkerton Academy, was honored with the Julie Vander Mark Memorial Scholarship, awarded annually in memory of a beloved DMC Physician Assistant who passed away in 2016.

Since 2006, Derry Medical Center/DMC Charitable Foundation has awarded $203,000 in scholarship funds to 171 students, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to the communities it serves.

The scholarship program is coordinated by John Overton, who works closely with guidance counselors in each high school to identify eligible seniors enrolled in accredited healthcare-related post-secondary programs.

Overton noted the importance of helping students overcome financial challenges as they embark on their educational journeys.

“There are so many bright, compassionate young people in our communities who dream of helping others through medicine,” said Overton. “This program is our way of saying: we believe in you, and we want to help you succeed. Our hope is that these students will one day return and care for the people in our communities.”

Christine Hand, MD, President of the DMC Board of Directors, echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the long-term value of investing in local students.

“As a community-based practice, we know that strengthening healthcare starts with supporting the next generation,” said Dr. Hand. “These scholarships represent more than financial support—they are a vote of confidence in our future caregivers. When we invest in students from our own towns and neighborhoods, we’re helping to build a stronger, more connected healthcare system for everyone.”
