Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women (behind lung cancer). Just under 42,000 women in the United States are expected to die from breast cancer in 2019.

Thanks to advancements in medicine and better access to healthcare, death rates have dropped significantly (40% from 1989 to 2016, according to the American Cancer Society) and continue to decrease among older women.

Women who have breast cancer now have a better chance of surviving, but saving a life starts with early detection. Knowing what to look for and when to get screened is critical.
